Avocados are widely grown in Southern California. They are not grown in the North Sacramento Valley because winter temperatures are far too cold for this semi-tropical tree.
Karen had tried to grow avocados many times in the past, but with no success.
She found a variety of avocado, Stewart, that is supposedly hardy down to short periods of 20 degrees F.
