On the west side of the North Sacramento Valley, about 40 miles west of our home, is the coastal mountain range called the Yolla Bolly Mountains. These mountains are mostly from 6,000 to 8,000 feet in our area. Mt. Linn, South Yolla Bolly Mountain, is 8,094 feet.
The above photo from our fence line was taken in early March of
2009. We had a third less rain and snow last year than this year.
Mt. Linn still, however, had snow showing in March of 2009.
We have had about 12 inches of rain and snow in the last 30 days. Another strong and wet storm coming over the Pacific will roll over these mountains, heading eastward, this coming Friday. More snow is expected in the Yolly Bolly Mountains to our west and in the Shasta Bolly range to the northwest, and much more snow in the higher Southern Cascade Mountains on the east side of the Valley.
